Free GPS Software

i took a look at some of the online offers for free GPS software and found, like many "free" offers there were often limits and provisos involved. Often the freeware is a scaled--down version of purchasable products. Sometimes the free product has restricted functionality with features disabled, other products are trial--based and are disabled after a certain time (hours or days or use).

An example of limited free GPS software can be found at GPS Utility. The downloadable freeware is limited 100 waypoints and 500 track points. (There are 65,000 of each in the registered version of their program.) The free program gives you a good opportunity to try before you buy, and this is the benefit of most free programs.

There are online sites that list various free GPS software and describe how to use the programs after you download them. Often individuals who have used the programs themselves develop the sites. These are great because they give you an unbiased interpretation of the benefits and disadvantages of the programs before you use them.

Using free GPS software you can download programs that allow you to retrieve and display aerial photos, topographical maps, USGS landmarks. There are programs available that allow you import scanned images and add latitude and longitude points and other data.

Free GPS software downloads are available for PDA units that are capable of communication with GPS receivers. With these downloads you can have a useful navigation assistant, location database manager, and GPS data converter.

Programs to manage GPS waypoint and route files are available for both PC and Mac users. The waypoints and route files can be saved or converted to various formats used by other mapping programs.

If you need to transfer information to and from your GPS receiver and your home computer or laptop there are several free programs that allow you to do so. There are also programs that allow Garmin GPS receivers to "talk" to one another.

Many of the programs listed here are directed at the hiking/trekker community, but there are also free programs available for auto GPS systems and marine navigational systems. I found a couple of marine navigation programs that allow you to download nautical charts and plotters.

There are free GPS software programs that allow you to download street maps that might not be included in your auto--navigation system. If you intend downloading in--vehicle software, make sure that it has audio capacity, an essential safety factor for motorists. One such program offers data for several countries with voice guidance in twelve languages.

Free GPS software is also available for downloading to your cell phone. This is mostly tracking software and can be phone specific. You might want to check with your carrier before downloading anything to your cell phone to make sure that it does not incur extra charges.

As satellites are constantly moving, it is helpful to know the optimal time for data collection in your area. There is free GPS software that includes an almanac to let you know the availability of satellites at any given time.

Some of the free GPS software is brand specific. Programs designed for a Garmin receiver may not work for a Magellan, so check out the specifications carefully, especially if you intend purchasing a registered version after your trial period. Other software works with most brands.

Barbie Games

When we let our little girls play with dolls, we are allowing them to exercise their imagination and creativity. It's also how they mimic the things that they see going on around them. One of the innovations that lets girls even become more creative are Barbie games. They come in a variety of forms for example, video games, online computer games, story book games and even vinyl sticky Barbie games. Barbie is of course the main character.

Online, you can dress the Barbie doll. In one version, she is in a store trying to make a decision on what to get. There are long and short dresses, and you can also change her hair color and hairstyle.

The fashion conscious aren't left out. There are tons of accessories like shoes, handbags, jewelry, and hosiery and so on. In another game, you find Barbie surrounded by loads of glamorous dresses and you get to pick what you like and dress her in it. You can also change her lip color and make up. It's actually a lot of fun.

There are also Barbie games where you go on adventures with Barbie. These are based on some of the Barbie movies and it doesn't matter if you haven't seen the movie. It's still fun and easy to play. Your little girl is promised a lot of fun with these games, and as a parent one should know that the content is suitable as they are aimed for young girls. The games are also very easy to navigate though.

Overcoming Fear Of Public Speaking

Fear of public speaking is a very common form of social anxiety. Fear of public speaking has often been called the 'Greatest Anxiety,' due to the large number of people who actually experience this fear. Fear of public speaking doesn't just mean that you have a fear of making a speech in public. It can mean that you experience stage fright, or even that you have a fear of talking to other people in a social situation.

Fear of public speaking often holds people back from many things that they want in their lives. It may be job promotions, or fund raisers for causes that they believe in, but the fear of public speaking will, at some point, stand between you and what you want or need.

Symptoms of fear of public speaking include shortness of breath, inability to speak, a shaky voice, shallow breathing, rapid heartbeat, sweating, nausea, dizziness, or lightheadedness. There are many things that can cause fear of public speaking. Social anxiety can cause a fear of public speaking. It may also be caused by an earlier traumatic public speaking experience. There is no one answer as to why some people experience fear of public speaking, but for those who experience it, the fear is quite real - but it can be dealt with.

There are many tricks a person can use to get past their fear of public speaking. The first trick is to know exactly what you are going to say, but not to worry about memorizing every word of your speech. Use note cards, and write down your key points - in sentences that make sense. This way, if you freeze up and forget what you were going to say, you can refer to your notes, and pick up where you left off. Use big print on the note cards, and if possible, keep up with where you are on the cards during your speech, so it will be easy to find your place if you need to.

Once you've prepared and practiced your speech, stop. Put it away, and don't think about it again, until you are on the stage, ready to deliver the speech. Often people over practice, and this just causes the fear to grow and grow. Remember it is okay to mess up when you are giving a speech. Simply laugh at yourself, the audience will laugh with you - not at you - and you can continue your speech. In fact, most people are much more relaxed after they've made that first mistake in the speech and laugh about it. They know, at that point, that they are going to be okay.

Speeches do not need to last for hours. You only need three or four main points. Say what needs to be said, accept the applause and say 'Thank You,' and go off and enjoy the rest of your day or evening. Another trick that works well is to have someone you know well to look at throughout the speech, and concentrate solely on that person. Give you speech to them, and them alone - even if the room is packed. This means that you bring your spouse along with you, or bring a friend. This must be someone that you are always comfortable talking to.

Many people feel that they must include jokes in their speeches. Unfortunately, many of these people fear that they are not funny, or that their joke will flop, and this causes more anxiety and fear. If you are worried about this, omit the jokes from your speech and be serious. The people are there to hear the information, not the jokes.

If all else fails - picture everyone in their underwear. This is an old standby that really does work. The point of doing this exercise is that it makes everyone in the room seem less intimidating. You don't even have to picture them in their underwear. Picture them with hair curlers in their hair, or picture the men with facial cream on their faces. There are a variety of ways that you can envision them in your head. Before you start the speech, simply look out over the room, and get that less intimidating mental picture in your head - but don't laugh outloud!

Choosing the Best Garmin Nuvi GPS System For You

Let me tell you straight up. I truly believe that Garmin GPS Systems are the best on the market. No other company provides the features and quality of product that Garmin does at their price points. However, There are so many Garmins on the market right now that it could be hard to figure out the best one for your needs. While all are good choices, each is separated from the other by their features, styling and upgrades. Choosing the right one for you basically comes down to the upgrades that you want. Upgrades might include more intensive map regions, bluetooth capabilities, speech recognition, and voice turn-by-turn directions. To me the progression in price is comparable to other electronics. The thinner, lighter, sleeker the product - the bigger the ticket that will come with it.

If you aren't sure where to begin, take a look at the Garmin Nuvi 700 series. While not the cheapest Garmin choice, the Nuvi 700 series should be looked not as an expensive portable navigation system, but as an entry level device comparable to high-end in-dash car navigation systems. All 700 series Nuvis are wide and sleek, have sunlight-readable displays, and options like route planning and an emergency locator. Additional features such as Bluetooth compatibility, mp3 player, pre-loaded street maps for Europe and North America, and local and custom points of interest ( POI ) are enhance this outstanding product. With MSN direct services, the Nuvi 700 series becomes a virtual travel helper, with the facility to update traffic, stories and weather in real time.

The biggest difference between the Nuvi 700 and 800 series models is that 800 series have advanced speech recognition capabilities. While 700 series gives you mostly hands-free control, the 800 series gives you complete hands-free use for you to navigate menus and use voice commands (which is really helpful in "hands-free" Washington, DC). While the 700 and 800 series gps systems are considered the "luxury" class in portable gps, the Garmin 5000 is definitely the working man's gps.

It has the biggest screen of all Garmin Nuvi products and is designed to be a dedicated car gps unit. These products are superb for in your RV or Wagon . Real tech heads can connect the gps with a camera to help with safely backing up a big automobile or wagon. They are particularly helpful for pro salespeople or pro drivers. The navigation features are the other reason this unit is valuable to the dedicated traveler. Nuvi 5000 incorporates Town Navigator NT street maps, 1,000,000 POI and up to three thousand programmable favorites. Some added extras include Garmin games, jpeg picture spectator, and mp3 player. The wireless FM transmitter broadcasts voice prompts, mp3 and audio through your automobile stereo system. Hands down, this is the best unit for a dedicated automobile user, particularly at a cost of 5 hundred bucks.

Well, if you read this far, you've got a handle on this complete Garmin Nuvi thing. If you simply need to find your way around the city and save gas by not getting lost, you will potentially be fine with the entry level models. You can add features or get downloads to upgrade for global travel if you'd like to use it while on holiday. If you need a sleeker design and more professional look with upgrades like voice commands and bluetooth, then you'll be better served with a more sophisticated system.

Travel and Make Money - How to Make Money and Travel Simultaneously

Traveling is fun but people often believe that in addition to its financially draining potential, it also prevents you from earning money. In short, it is considered an all expense, no income activity. But on the contrary, travelers can earn money while having a vacation. They just need a bit of skill and ingenuity.

Online Jobs

Plenty of money making opportunities are available online. The communication technology has made it easy to communicate from anywhere in the world. Anybody with computer and Internet skills can now get different kinds of jobs online.

This is also referred to as electronic freelancing or "e-lancing". Jobs will often include research, typing, and other clerical work. Today, since the Internet is the premiere venue for business and advertising, people can do SEO, web programming and design, link building, and other technical stuff and get paid very lucratively for it.

Online work can also be called telecommuting and some people can become virtual assistants. They can get paid by the hour or can get rated by output; for instance, 4 dollars per article. Payment can be made electronically and it is a safe and secure way to do business. You can work anywhere in the world. Tasks can sometimes be done off line and a constant Internet connection may only be needed in some cases. Other times a job could involve constant connectivity.

Hostel Jobs or Farm/Ranch Hand

Traveling is financially draining however there are a lot of people these days that offer opportunities for backpackers to earn and save money on the go. Travelers can now work in hostels as servers, cleaners, bartenders, or any type of menial job possible. In exchange for these services, travelers will often get free accommodation and sometimes food.

There are also job listings available, usually in local hostels, that enable a travelers to assist in the day to day duties of near by ranches or farms. Travelers can work part and sometimes full time as a farm or ranch hand. Food and shelter is the primary compensation but more often than not, backpackers are able to earn extra wages. Plus, there can be free Internet, pool, and instruction incentives.

Travel Writing or Blogging

If you have the skills to write interesting and informative articles, you can become a travel writer or blogger and earn lots of money out of it. All you have to do is write about your experience, describe what you see, or express your opinions about your encounters. If you are passionate about writing, it will never feel like work but you get to earn from it.

As a travel writer, you can sell your articles to different publishing outfits. Publishing companies that distribute newspapers and travel magazines are the most likely buyers of the articles.

In terms of blogging, this is more of a new age approach to writing. Travel blogging, in contrast, will cater to Internet users but just like travel writing, articles and write ups can be sold to willing customers. In this case, the customers are website owners. They will use the articles as part of their site updates which adds appeal to their respective site.

You can personally use your own articles to your advantage. Have your own website, post your own articles there and earn through affiliate marketing and ad space rentals.

Grow Some Interesting Plants You Won't Find At Your Local Greenhouse.

Do you scour your seed catalogs or look at all the new varieties that have come out in your gardening magazines? You can’t wait to go to your local greenhouse and purchase them for your garden or flower bed. But when you get there, you find they don’t carry that variety.

Why not start them yourself?

So how do you start? First of all make a list of the varieties that look interesting to you. If you are a newbie at seed starting, try and pick some plants that would be easy to grow. There is no use getting discouraged with finicky plants your first time at it. Also keep your list to a minimum. You don’t want to overload yourself in the beginning.

Purchase seeds early enough in the season so that you can give them a good start if they need extra time. If seed companies haven’t been sending you catalogs, then go on the internet and search for seed catalogs and I’m sure you can find some sites that will be happy to send you a catalog.

Some plants need a long growing season, so you will need to start them early in the house if you live in the northern areas of the country. Vegetable plants like tomatoes and peppers or flowers such as impatiens and pansies.

What do you need if you are going to start your own seeds? Clean containers, good soilless seed starting mix, fertilizer, warmth, and plenty of light. You can buy special containers, re-use some from plants you have purchased, or some type of container you have around the house. I use empty milk cartons plenty of times. You can also use the milk cartons for making labels so you remember what seeds are in the container.

Do you happen to have some old seeds from past projects that were never used? See if they are still viable by pre-sprouting. Dampen paper towels, spread out the seeds, and put the folded towel in a bag. Place in a warm area and check every few days. If they haven’t sprouted in 10-14 days, I would give up and throw them out. You can also do this to speed up the germination of new seeds before you plant. Just handle very carefully when planting so you don’t damage the root. This is not good to do with very small seeds.

You are now ready to plant. If you are re-using cell packs or flats, wash first with a mild dish detergent and then dip in a mix of 1 part bleach to 9 parts hot water, let dry. In cell packs, place 2 seeds in each cell to be sure of getting at least one sprouted seed. If two sprout, snip out the weaker of the two with scissors. Very fine seeds could be spread onto a flat filled to the brim for good air flow.

Start at the right time. If started too early, seedlings will get weak and spindly without good lighting. If you don’t have a really good sunny windowsill you will need a special grow light to be sure of good growth.

When it is time to put your plants in the ground, you will want to harden them off for a few days to prepare them for the outdoor environment. One way is to hold off on the water a little and also place them outside for just a few hours a day, increasing the time gradually. In a week they should be able to handle the outside world without transplant shock.

Do you have a little experience starting your own seeds? Maybe you want to try something a little more challenging. How about tree, shrubs, or wildflower seeds? Generally, these seeds need stratification to germinate. That is, they need to go through some cold and moist temperatures plus warmth to break dormancy. Some will want darkness and some light. You need to know the specifics of the plant you want to start.

To stratify your seeds try this method. Sow seeds in moist soilless mix in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid or plastic wrap to hold the moisture and prevent spills. You don’t need a large amount of mix to get them to sprout. Place in the refrigerator for one week and then remove to let them warm up for a day or two. Place in the freezer for one week and then remove to let them warm up again. Alternate this method at least twice before keeping them in a warm environment to allow them to germinate.

If you have some really hard seeds, then you can try scarification by rubbing the seed with sandpaper or an emery board. You can also nick the seed with a knife but be sure not to damage the embryo.

Learning to start seeds can be fun and rewarding but it can also be frustrating if you don’t take time to learn the basics before moving on to the harder to start varieties.

Gregory Reyes Trial | Real Time Court Status

I first met Greg Reyes when I went to visit Brocade Communications in 1998. At the time, he had recently assumed the CEO position there and I worked for an investment banking company, Needham & Company. I no longer work for Needham arid cannot represent them in any capacity at this time.

Brocade had no CFO at the time. I can't remember if the CFO had left just prior to Greg joining or shortly thereafter. I do recall that Brocade was having a difficult time finding a replacement and that the prior CFO had not been suitable to represent the company during an IPO and as a public company. My understanding was that Greg had inherited the CFO problem and was doing his best to find a replacement. Silicon Valley was booming at the time and CFOs were a tough find.

At the initial meeting, in subsequent ones, and at dinners over the next year Greg and I discussed Brocade, their desire to go public, market conditions and the fibre channel industry. Greg also made comments from time to time about his family - all complimentaiy about how wonderful and closely knit they were. He specifically mentioned the sacrifices his wife had made, with small children, to nurture their family. It was very clear that Greg treasured his family and worried about the demands of his current position on his wife and two children.

I believe that two specific encounters are very relevant to Greg's current legal situation. Overall, I am shocked that of the many CEOs I knew during the relevant time period he is the one to be convicted in a criminal trial.

The first situation was when Greg and I initially discussed the possibility of Brocade going public. He said the company had started the process then stopped it after deciding that it wasn't ready. At that time, he made it clear to me that he felt an ethical obligation to stick with the original underwriting team since they had already put in a lot of work and had been loyal to Brocade.

Next, when Brocade did go public, Greg invited our firm to be part of the underwriting syndicate (the underwriters typically consist of three or so investment banks who do most of the work. Greg kept this original team. The syndicate is a much broader group, and only sells stock. In most IPOs this latter list is quite long to ensure wide distribution of shares. We were part of this second group). The lead banker, Morgan Stanley, tried to exclude us from the syndicate at the last minute. I called Greg to discuss this problem. At that time he asked me what his legal and ethical options were. He made it very clear that he would maintain his commitment to us - he felt ethically bound to do so since he had committed to include us - only if doing so was legally correct.

When I recently read in a newspaper that Greg had sent an email in which he said that backdating was illegal I was shocked to read that the email was being interpreted such that he knew illegal things were occurring at Brocade. Based on my experience with Greg 1 read the comment to mean that he was reiterating what was legal to ensure that email recipient complied with the law. As stated above, Greg made it clear to me that both ethical and legal factors were very important to him and must be maintained. He was exceptional as a CEO in his emphasis on the value he placed on legality, ethics and loyalty.

Therefore, based on my experiences with Grog during the period at issue in his trial and sentencing I would respectfully urge the judge to consider leniency. Greg was always gracious, courteous and respectful in every situation in which 1 observed him. Greg worked incredible hours and entered a company with either no CFO or an inappropriate one. One person can only do so much and I would hate to see other executives shy away from companies with similar difficulties due to their own future possible liabilities.

The Pros and Cons of Hearing Aids

Disposable hearing aids are designed for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. They are currently being marketed to aging baby boomers suffering from hearing loss.

Disposable hearing aids appeal to people who are not sure if they want to commit to wearing hearing aids and to those who are reluctant to invest in conventional hearing aids. Disposable hearing aids usually cost between $40 and $50 each, whereas conventional hearing aids can cost up to $900 for a pair. Digital hearing aids are the most expensive, costing up to $5,000 for the latest pair. Since conventional hearing aids can last for about five years, they can work out to be cheaper than disposable hearing aids in the long run.

Unlike conventional hearing aids, they are not custom fitted. They come in a various settings or prescriptions, selected to match the user's level of hearing loss. A disposable hearing aid's batteries cannot be replaced. They are designed to be thrown away after the batteries expire, which usually last for just over a month.

A disposable hearing aid can be made available immediately after a hearing test. There is no need to wait for it to be manufactured like a conventional hearing aid. There is also no cost associated with repairs or replacing batteries. If a disposable hearing aid breaks down, you just throw it away and get a new one. Should you lose your disposable hearing aid, the cost of a replacing it is far less than that of a conventional hearing aid.

While disposable hearing aids are sometimes described as one size fits all, they actually fit about 80% of adult male ears and about 60% of adult female ears. Most disposable aids are of the in the ear (ITE) type. Instead of being molded to the ear, they make use of a soft cap that provides an acoustic seal about halfway down the ear canal.

Disposable hearing aids have a short life span. They cannot be custom fitted and hence, some people find them uncomfortable to wear. Disposable hearing aids are not as flexible as modern digital hearing aids as they come in standard prescriptions. Perhaps the biggest concern of audiologists is that most disposable hearing aid users do not have their hearing checked on a regular basis, leading to potential uncorrected problems.

If you have a hearing problem, it is vital to see an audiologist or an ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor who will determine your level of hearing loss and suitability to wearing a hearing aid. Although hearing loss is caused by noise or aging, it is important for a professional to rule out any underlying problem that requires medical treatment.

Appealing for a psychic reading

Nowadays, you will find more people choosing to seek guidance from a psychic helpline than from psychoanalyst or from a priest. Perhaps the advice of the priest is too restrictive and, in some parts of the world, the church does not manage to follow up the speed of the modern life. Psychological counseling may be too expensive and too pretentious on occasion. People seem to find the idea of a psychic reading more approachable and helpful.

A psychic helpline seems to have many benefits. First and foremost, just like other forms of counseling, it helps people divert the responsibility of personal decisions from themselves to a “professional” psychic, to someone outside the situation, endowed with special psychic capacities and who can have a more objective opinion on events. A psychic helpline offers more confidentiality than any other form of counseling: nobody will know who you are at the other end of the line and you don’t have to face the psychic you talk to. A psychic helpline is available around the clock and you can always switch to another psychic helpline if the services of the one you are currently using do not satisfy you any longer. In addition, using a psychic helpline may turn out to be much cheaper than making use of other forms of counseling.

When you call a psychic helpline, you get to talk to a professional psychic that is ready to listen to your question and concerns. The psychic will listen to you and then will ask for a few questions in order to be able to build your psychic reading. A psychic reading is one of the reasons you call the psychic helpline in the first place. While you may call simply because you just need someone to talk to and a psychic can be a sympathetic ear, you usually call because you look for specific advice which comes in the form of the psychic reading.

A psychic reading will start from your profile and the question you are interested in. The personal information you need to provide a psychic helpline in order to get a psychic reading is usually related to your date and place of birth, or other important dates in your life. Perhaps they will ask for your first name and initials, but usually the information you provide to the psychic helpline should not get too specific. The form your psychic reading takes depends on your preferences, on whether you are interested in numerology or horoscopes, in Tarot or i-Ching, clairvoyance or dream interpretation.

A very popular form of psychic reading is a personal horoscope which can require as little as your date of birth and provide you with information about the events to follow in your life. A similar form of psychic reading is the numerological chart, working with quite limited information too, and providing you with the main features of your destiny. You may even get these types of psychic reading in written form after you have called the psychic helpline and requested for them. Other forms of psychic reading, such as the Tarot cards, may be done over the phone. You may even need to meet the psychic in person, in which case the psychic helpline is just the starting point in your venture, merely putting you in touch with the psychic.

While a psychic helpline may be the easiest and most popular way to get a psychic reading, you must be warned that there have been cases when a psychic helpline was proven to be set up to take advantage of people. The people employed as psychics were frauds and if you got a psychic reading there, it may not state the truth. Indeed, there are reasons to question the whole practice of getting a psychic reading, but scams are everywhere and, if you manage to stay away from them, you might get to find out exactly what you are looking for.

Before calling a psychic helpline and requesting for a psychic reading, you may want to search for the answers within yourself. It is better to try to know yourself and try to make decisions based on what you know and feel. In the end you will still have to do that no matter the amount of help you maye get from someone else. Of course, a psychic can help you do just that (just like a psychologist), but you will need a lot of patience anyway.

Email List Building: How To Get Started Building Your Own Email Mailing List

Email list building is a common marketing practice these days. There are very few businesses that you can go into these days that don’t ask for your email address or ask if you want to sign up for special offers or updates through your email. This is the first step you should take, as well, when building your email list. Start by asking your customers to fill out a short piece of paper containing their name and email address. This will give you the opportunity to keep in some sort of contact and communication with your customers.

Email list building sounds easy, right? Well, it can be if you go about it the right way. These days, with everyone asking for email addresses with the amount of spam on the internet, it is getting harder and harder for you to be able to get a person’s email address from them for your email list building database. So you’ll have to find some way to encourage them. If you are an in-store individual requesting an email address for building your email list, try pointing out the benefits, like newsletters, promotions or other benefits they might receive by having their email address on your email list. This is called direct contact collection. You are collecting the email address for the email list directly from face-to-face customers. For those of us with websites, adding a simple form for email collection is usually the best way to go about email list building. Simply write a short paragraph about why your customer should be giving their email address to you and then request the email by putting in a submission form.

If you already have an email list, try this email list building option. Ask your customers for referrals. If they like your site and what you have to offer, request the email address of friends and family so you can send an invitation to those people to take a look at your site. Or, depending on the site, offer a referral program where customers can earn something for every so many people they get to sign up and give you their email addresses. A third option in the email list building process is telemarketing. In this process, you build your email list by contacting customers over the phone and letting them know they could perhaps avoid the call if they signed up for the email service.

Try to use as many of these as you can when attempting to do email list building. This will help you to create a large email address base.
